Happy Boxing Day everyone – and to keep you in the Festive Spirit here’s our final VIDA Insight of this year 😊 (smiley face)
Dave and I (Vicky) have been really pleased to provide Vision Impairment Awareness Training days to new Sight for Surrey staff, Vision Impairment and Disability Awareness training days to maintenance, cleaning and security staff at the Chantry Centre in Andover and Vision Impairment Awareness sessions for staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. We also did some 2-2 work with a vision impaired person and their PA assisting with some practical solutions and Sighted Guide Techniques. In addition, we’ve undertaken product design discussions and testing for Unforgettable and the University of Surrey. And we went on our annual trip to Sight Village South East – read last week’s blog about this.
It was Dave’s turn to visit Dans Le Noir this year with his family (read his blog - https://vidatraining.weebly.com/blog/86-dans-le-noir-daves-experience) whilst I took part in the Run in the Dark event with a friend (more about Run in the Dark and the Mark Pollock Trust is mentioned in my blog - https://vidatraining.weebly.com/blog/83-optimist-realist-or-something-else)
We’ve also been busy with our other service – the Disability Equipment Service (www.disabilityequipmentservice.co.uk) and are really proud to be on the brink of sponsoring our second guide dog puppy who we hope to call Errol in memory of Dave’s wonderful guide dog who sadly died last year. Our first guide dog puppy, Des, has just completed his first year of training and is now officially a trainee guide dog. We’re really proud to have received a lovely photo of him in his new harness. Read more about him on our DES Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/disabilityequipmentservice/photos/a.243234659204367/843872349140592/?type=3&theater
And just to let you know, we’re changing things around a bit next year – we’ll still be doing regular insights but on a monthly basis with additional insights on particular days throughout the year and adhoc ones as the mood takes us 😊 (smiley face). Watch out for these - our regular ones will be on the 15th of each month.
We’re always interested to know about other people’s experiences and thoughts. Please share these by commenting…

Our VIDA Insights...
Following our experiences from delivering our Vision Impairment Awareness training days over the past couple of years, we know that there’s loads more that we could talk about and examples we could have shared. Whilst these won’t be a substitute for our training, they will give you an insight (hence the name!) into our thoughts, observations and experiences from each of our perspectives - Dave’s living with sight loss and Vicky’s from being a sighted person and working alongside and supporting people who have sight loss.
