We’re really pleased that last week we started running our VI Inclusive Employment Training course. Doing the training on zoom is a new venture for us, but a week and a half in and all is going well with great participation from the group and a real sense of peer support developing.
One of the topics we discussed last week is Condition Management and how thinking about this might help people to feel more confident in considering employment. It is only one factor that we discuss on our training but we felt it might be useful to share in an insight, using this to also consider some examples of the impact of vision impairment on day to day working life and things that might help. We hope sharing these might help other people with vision impairments but also provide an insight for managers and colleagues.
It encourages you to think about how your disability affects your daily routine and supports you with implementing strategies that will enable you to best manage your disability or health condition to maximise your lifestyle and potential future employment – looking at what you can do rather than what you can’t do.

Some of the topics we discussed were:
We hope these points have helped you to think about how you might manage your own condition and/or enabled you to better understand the impacts of vision impairment within a work situation.
We’re always interested to know about other people’s experiences and thoughts. Please share these by commenting…

Our VIDA Insights...
Following our experiences from delivering our Vision Impairment Awareness training days over the past couple of years, we know that there’s loads more that we could talk about and examples we could have shared. Whilst these won’t be a substitute for our training, they will give you an insight (hence the name!) into our thoughts, observations and experiences from each of our perspectives - Dave’s living with sight loss and Vicky’s from being a sighted person and working alongside and supporting people who have sight loss.
